POLYMXE INJECTION is an antibiotic. POLYMXE INJECTION is used to treat some types of serious infections caused by certain bacteria. POLYMXE INJECTION is given when other antibiotics are not suitable.

Special Instructions for POLYMXE INJECTION

• POLYMXE INJECTION is given by healthcare professionals.  POLYMXE INJECTION is prescribed when your doctor thinks injections are more suitable for you than tablets. Your doctor may replace your injections as soon as your doctor sees fit.
• Your doctor or nurse will administer POLYMXE INJECTION into a vein over a period of 30-60 minutes.
• Avoid taking POLYMXE INJECTION if you are allergic colistimethate or to other polymyxins.
• Inform your doctor if you have or have had kidney problems, if you suffer from myasthenia gravis, if you suffer from porphyria.
• POLYMXE INJECTION should be given with precaution in premature and new-born babies as their kidneys will not be developed fully.
• Avoid taking POLYMXE INJECTION injection and POLYMXE INJECTION inhalation at the same time since this may increase your side-effects.
• Seek medical help immediately if you experience any allergic reactions like wheezing or breathing difficulties, a rash, itching, or sudden swelling of the face, throat or lips.
• POLYMXE INJECTION may cause dizziness and problems with vision. Do not drive or use any machines or tools until the dizziness and problems with vision goes away.

Q. How does POLYMXE INJECTION work? A. POLYMXE INJECTION belongs to class of medications called antibiotics. POLYMXE INJECTION is a polymyxin antibiotic agent. Polymyxins are cationic polypeptides which disrupt the bacterial cell membrane through a detergent like mechanism and stops the growth of bacteria.
Q. Is POLYMXE INJECTION safe? A. POLYMXE INJECTION is safe when taken as prescribed by doctor. There are some kidney problems reported more likely in patients who already have poor kidneys, in people who took POLYMXE INJECTION at the same time as other medicines that can affect the kidneys and in people who are given a dose that is too high. These problems will get better if treatment is stopped, or the dose of POLYMXE INJECTION is reduced. Inform your doctor if you have any kidney problem since POLYMXE INJECTION can make your kidney condition worse.
