Uses of MONLEVO TABLET

MONLEVO TABLET is a combination of two drugs: Montelukast (Leukotriene receptor antagonist) and Levocetirizine (antihistamine). MONLEVO TABLET is used to relieve allergy symptoms such as watery eyes, runny nose, itching eyes/nose, and sneezing. MONLEVO TABLET is also known to relieve hives and itching.

Special Instructions for MONLEVO TABLET

• Take MONLEVO TABLET daily at the same time irrespective of meals for best results.
• Self-medication is not recommended while taking MONLEVO TABLET.
• Depending on your age, weight and condition, your doctor will decide the dose. Elderly people should take it in a lower dose as prescribed by the doctor. Do not give MONLEVO TABLET to children until and unless prescribed by a doctor.
• Consumption of alcohol/smoking is not recommended while taking MONLEVO TABLET.
• Keep your doctor informed if have heart disease, high blood pressure, uneven heart rate, diabetes, a hormonal condition called hyperthyroidism or low levels of potassium in your blood.
• Driving or doing activities that require mental and physical coordination is not recommended while taking MONLEVO TABLET as it may cause mild drowsiness and sleepiness.
• Consumption of MONLEVO TABLET is not recommended if you are planning to conceive. Breastfeeding women are also advised not to take it without consulting a doctor.
• Keep your doctor informed if you have or had any previous history of heart, kidney or liver diseases.
• Please consult your doctor immediately if you experience sudden dip in blood pressure, severe allergic rashes and swelling in the ankle, face, lips or mouth or extreme tiredness with muscle weakness while taking MONLEVO TABLET.
• Your doctor may discontinue or change the medicine.

Q. How does MONLEVO TABLET work? A. MONLEVO TABLET is a combination of two drugs. Montelukast is a Leukotriene receptor antagonist. It works by blocking the effects of leukotriene (substance produced by the body in response to certain triggers) that cause narrowing and swelling of airways in the lungs. Levocetirizine is an antihistamine. It works by blocking a chemical messenger (histamine) responsible for sneezing, runny nose and watery eyes.
Q. Is MONLEVO TABLET sedative medicine? A. MONLEVO TABLET is not a sedative drug. However, it has been known to cause drowsiness and sleepiness. You are advised to take it in the evening or night time to avoid day time drowsiness. Additionally, you should not take up activities like driving and activities which require mental alertness along with physical coordination. Talk to your doctor in case you experience excessive sedation(drowsiness) with MONLEVO TABLET. Your doctor may change the dosage or prescribe you an alternative medicine so that you can carry out day to day work without any hinderance.
Q. Can I take cetirizine with MONLEVO TABLET? A. MONLEVO TABLET can be taken with cetirizine. No drug-drug interactions have been reported between these two drugs. However, do not self- medicate check with your doctor once before taking these medicines together.
Q. Is MONLEVO TABLET an antibiotic? A. No, MONLEVO TABLET is not an antibiotic. MONLEVO TABLET is a combination of two drugs, montelukast (Leukotriene receptor antagonist) and levocetirizine (antihistamine). Yes, one can take MONLEVO TABLET for treating allergies however, MONLEVO TABLET has been extensively used for the treatment of allergic respiratory illnesses such as seasonal allergies (runny nose/eyes, sneezing, watery eyes) and exercise-induced asthma. However, it may not be effective for other types of allergies. Please consult your doctor before taking MONLEVO TABLET for allergies.
Q. Does MONLEVO TABLET cause weight gain? A. Yes, when taken for a long time MONLEVO TABLET increases appetite, which can cause weight gain. When taking MONLEVO TABLET for a long time make sure you eat low carbs, high fibre meals to check on weight gain. Incase you feel your weight has drastically changed consult with your doctor immediately.
Q. Does MONLEVO TABLET cause diarrhea? A. Yes, diarrhea may occur while taking MONLEVO TABLET. Drinking plenty of fluids and eating light non-spicy meals would be helpful. Please consult your doctor if you are suffering from severe diarrhea.
Q. Can I use MONLEVO TABLET after expiry? A. No, it is not recommended to use MONLEVO TABLET after expiry. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month and the efficacy of the medicine is reduced after the expiry date. Please return the unused medicine for the pharmacy to dispose or properly dispose it yourself.
Q. Is MONLEVO TABLET Safe? A. Yes, MONLEVO TABLET is Safe when taken in prescribed dose and for prescribed period by your doctor. However, some people may experience some common side effects like stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and other very rare side effects. If you experience any persistent problem while taking this medication, please consult your doctor immediately.
Q. Does MONLEVO TABLET cause nausea and vomiting? A. Yes, MONLEVO TABLET is known to cause nausea and vomiting. Taking MONLEVO TABLET with food may help in avoiding nausea. It is suggested to avoid spicy meals and fried food while taking MONLEVO TABLET. In case of vomiting, drink fluids by taking small frequent sips to avoid vomiting. Talk your doctor if vomiting persist and if you feel dehydration while taking MONLEVO TABLET.
Q. How to store MONLEVO TABLET? A. Do not store above 25 degrees C and store away from moisture and heat. Store it in room temperature and do not freeze it.
