Uses of LARIAGO DS TABLET

LARIAGO DS TABLET is an anti-malarial drug. It is used to prevent or treat malaria in areas where malaria is common.

Special Instructions for LARIAGO DS TABLET

• Take LARIAGO DS TABLET after meals with a glass of water.
• Lower dose is recommended for preventing malarial infection and a higher dose is recommended to treat malaria infection.
• You are advised to wear long sleeved and long trousers while you are outside to avoid insect bites. Also, use insect repellent sprays or creams and mosquito nets to compliment the treatment with LARIAGO DS TABLET.
• LARIAGO DS TABLET will be given a week before travelling, continue taking during your stay and should be continued for further four weeks after returning from the malarial region.
• LARIAGO DS TABLET is not recommended for children below 1 year of age.
• LARIAGO DS TABLET may cause blurred vision. Do not drive or use any machines or tools until the vision is clear.
• Your doctor will advise you to get blood tests done before and during the treatment because LARIAGO DS TABLET can sometimes cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar levels).
• Inform your doctor if you have epilepsy, psoriasis, myasthenia gravis, porphyria, G6PD deficiency, liver or kidney problems.

Q. How does LARIAGO DS TABLET work? A. LARIAGO DS TABLET belongs to a class of anti-malarial drugs. It is used to prevent or treat malaria in areas where malaria is common. LARIAGO DS TABLET works by killing the parasite or preventing the parasite to grow.
Q. Can I take intradermal (into the skin) rabies vaccine while taking LARIAGO DS TABLET? A. No, you are advised not to have intradermal rabies vaccination unless your doctor tells you to take. This is because LARIAGO DS TABLET may decrease the antibody response to rabies vaccine. So, you are suggested to take the vaccine before starting anti-malarial medicine.
Q. Does LARIAGO DS TABLET treat malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum? A. No, LARIAGO DS TABLET does not treat malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum because Plasmodium falciparum is resistant to LARIAGO DS TABLET. Your doctor will recommend quinine for treating Plasmodium falciparum.
Q. Does LARIAGO DS TABLET cause arrhythmia (abnormal heart rhythm)? A. Yes, LARIAGO DS TABLET is known to cause arrythmia in some patients and if you are already having the condition LARIAGO DS TABLET may worsen the condition as it may interfere with heart's electric system (send signals to heart chambers when to contract).
Q. Can I take amiodarone (medicines used to control the heart rate) with LARIAGO DS TABLET? A. No, you are suggested to not to take amiodarone with LARIAGO DS TABLET. LARIAGO DS TABLET may increase the risk of abnormal heart rhythms when taken at the same time as with amiodarone. Check with your doctor before taking the two together.
