A. LAMITOR DT 25MG TABLET belongs to a class of medicines called antiepileptics. LAMITOR DT 25MG TABLET reduces seizures and mood swings by stabilising the electrical signals in the brain. Brain cells contact each other by sending electric signals and it is normal to send a certain number of signals per second. If the brain cells send more signals than our body can handle, then it can cause seizures and mood swings.
Q. Does LAMITOR DT 25MG TABLET cause anaphylaxis (life-threatening allergic reaction)?
A. Yes, LAMITOR DT 25MG TABLET may cause Stevens-Jonson’s syndrome (SJS), toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) and drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) which are potentially life-threatening allergic reactions. Consult your doctor straight away, if you experience any allergic reactions such as widespread rash with blisters around mouth, eyes, nose and genitals and peeling of the skin. These may be are symptoms of SJS, TEN and DRESS.
Q. Can I take hormonal contraceptives with LAMITOR DT 25MG TABLET?
A. No, it is not advised to take hormonal contraceptives with LAMITOR DT 25MG TABLET. LAMITOR DT 25MG TABLET might decrease the effectiveness of hormonal contraceptives and can cause breakthrough bleeding, spotting, or pregnancy. So, it is advised to use non-hormonal contraceptives.
Q. Can I take valproate (used to treat epilepsy) with LAMITOR DT 25MG TABLET?
A. No, it is not advised to take valproate with LAMITOR DT 25MG TABLET until and unless prescribed by your doctor because valproate may interact with LAMITOR DT 25MG TABLET and can increase the risk of side effects. Check with your doctor before taking the two together.
