Uses of GRANISET INJECTION

GRANISET INJECTION belongs to the class of antiemetics. GRANISET INJECTION is used to prevent nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy, radiation therapy or by surgery.

Special Instructions for GRANISET INJECTION

• Do not self-administer. GRANISET INJECTION is given by a doctor or nurse.
• Seek medical help immediately if you experience itchy rash, difficulty in breathing, swelling of lips, face, tongue or other body parts as these might be signs of an allergic reaction.
• Inform your doctor if you have heart problems before taking GRANISET INJECTION.
• Keep your doctor informed about all the ongoing medications before taking GRANISET INJECTION.

Q. How does GRANISET INJECTION work? A. GRANISET INJECTION is a 5-HT3 receptor antagonist or antiemetic (prevent vomiting). Radiation, chemotherapy and surgery may release a substance called serotonin (5HT) in the gut which acts on 5HT3 receptors and sends nerve messages to the vomiting centre in the brain. GRANISET INJECTION works by inhibiting serotonin. Thereby, prevents vomiting and nausea.
Q. How is GRANISET INJECTION administered? A. GRANISET INJECTION is administered as an intravenous (into a vein) injection or infusion. In children, GRANISET INJECTION is given as an intravenous infusion. GRANISET INJECTION is administered by a doctor or nurse.
Q. Can I take GRANISET INJECTION with fluoxetine? A. No, you are not recommended to take GRANISET INJECTION with fluoxetine as it may result in a serious condition called serotonin syndrome and cause symptoms such as shivering, diarrhoea, high fever, restlessness, muscle stiffness, jerks, shaking, high blood pressure, vomiting, rapid heartbeat, hallucination or loss of coordination. However, please consult a doctor before taking GRANISET INJECTION with other medicines.
Q. Is GRANISET INJECTION Safe for children? A. GRANISET INJECTION is not recommended for children below 2 years as the Safety and effectiveness of GRANISET INJECTION were not established. Also, GRANISET INJECTION is not recommended to treat nausea after surgery in children of any age.
Q. Can a Parkinsons patient take GRANISET INJECTION? A. No, a Parkinsons patient is not recommended to take GRANISET INJECTION as it may cause low blood pressure. However, please consult a doctor before taking GRANISET INJECTION.
