Uses of Coekastle Tab

Coekastle Tab is a combination of two drugs: Montelukast (Leukotriene receptor antagonist) and Levocetirizine (antihistamine). Coekastle Tab is used to relieve allergy symptoms such as watery eyes, runny nose, itching eyes/nose, and sneezing. Coekastle Tab is also known to relieve hives and itching.

Special Instructions for Coekastle Tab

• Take Coekastle Tab daily at the same time irrespective of meals for best results.
• Self-medication is not recommended while taking Coekastle Tab.
• Depending on your age, weight and condition, your doctor will decide the dose. Elderly people should take it in a lower dose as prescribed by the doctor. Do not give Coekastle Tab to children until and unless prescribed by a doctor.
• Consumption of alcohol/smoking is not recommended while taking Coekastle Tab.
• Keep your doctor informed if have heart disease, high blood pressure, uneven heart rate, diabetes, a hormonal condition called hyperthyroidism or low levels of potassium in your blood.
• Driving or doing activities that require mental and physical coordination is not recommended while taking Coekastle Tab as it may cause mild drowsiness and sleepiness.
• Consumption of Coekastle Tab is not recommended if you are planning to conceive. Breastfeeding women are also advised not to take it without consulting a doctor.
• Keep your doctor informed if you have or had any previous history of heart, kidney or liver diseases.
• Please consult your doctor immediately if you experience sudden dip in blood pressure, severe allergic rashes and swelling in the ankle, face, lips or mouth or extreme tiredness with muscle weakness while taking Coekastle Tab.
• Your doctor may discontinue or change the medicine.

Q. How does Coekastle Tab work? A. Coekastle Tab is a combination of two drugs. Montelukast is a Leukotriene receptor antagonist. It works by blocking the effects of leukotriene (substance produced by the body in response to certain triggers) that cause narrowing and swelling of airways in the lungs. Levocetirizine is an antihistamine. It works by blocking a chemical messenger (histamine) responsible for sneezing, runny nose and watery eyes.
Q. Is Coekastle Tab sedative medicine? A. Coekastle Tab is not a sedative drug. However, it has been known to cause drowsiness and sleepiness. You are advised to take it in the evening or night time to avoid day time drowsiness. Additionally, you should not take up activities like driving and activities which require mental alertness along with physical coordination. Talk to your doctor in case you experience excessive sedation(drowsiness) with Coekastle Tab. Your doctor may change the dosage or prescribe you an alternative medicine so that you can carry out day to day work without any hinderance.
Q. Can I take cetirizine with Coekastle Tab? A. Coekastle Tab can be taken with cetirizine. No drug-drug interactions have been reported between these two drugs. However, do not self- medicate check with your doctor once before taking these medicines together.
Q. Is Coekastle Tab an antibiotic? A. No, Coekastle Tab is not an antibiotic. Coekastle Tab is a combination of two drugs, montelukast (Leukotriene receptor antagonist) and levocetirizine (antihistamine). Coekastle Tab is used to relieve allergy symptoms such as watery eyes, runny nose, itching eyes/nose, and sneezing.
Q. Can you take Coekastle Tab for allergies? A. Yes, one can take Coekastle Tab for treating allergies however, Coekastle Tab has been extensively used for the treatment of allergic respiratory illnesses such as seasonal allergies (runny nose/eyes, sneezing, watery eyes) and exercise-induced asthma. However, it may not be effective for other types of allergies. Please consult your doctor before taking Coekastle Tab for allergies.
Q. Does Coekastle Tab cause weight gain? A. Yes, when taken for a long time Coekastle Tab increases appetite, which can cause weight gain. When taking Coekastle Tab for a long time make sure you eat low carbs, high fibre meals to check on weight gain. Incase you feel your weight has drastically changed consult with your doctor immediately.
Q. Does Coekastle Tab cause diarrhea? A. Yes, diarrhea may occur while taking Coekastle Tab. Drinking plenty of fluids and eating light non-spicy meals would be helpful. Please consult your doctor if you are suffering from severe diarrhea.
Q. Can I use Coekastle Tab after expiry? A. No, it is not recommended to use Coekastle Tab after expiry. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month and the efficacy of the medicine is reduced after the expiry date. Please return the unused medicine for the pharmacy to dispose or properly dispose it yourself.
Q. Is Coekastle Tab Safe? A. Yes, Coekastle Tab is Safe when taken in prescribed dose and for prescribed period by your doctor. However, some people may experience some common side effects like stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and other very rare side effects. If you experience any persistent problem while taking this medication, please consult your doctor immediately.
Q. Does Coekastle Tab cause nausea and vomiting? A. Yes, Coekastle Tab is known to cause nausea and vomiting. Taking Coekastle Tab with food may help in avoiding nausea. It is suggested to avoid spicy meals and fried food while taking Coekastle Tab. In case of vomiting, drink fluids by taking small frequent sips to avoid vomiting. Talk your doctor if vomiting persist and if you feel dehydration while taking Coekastle Tab.
Q. How to store Coekastle Tab? A. Do not store above 25 degrees C and store away from moisture and heat. Store it in room temperature and do not freeze it. Keep out of the reach and sight of children. Keep Coekastle Tab in the container or pack it came in and close it tightly to avoid contamination. Please dispose the unused medicine.
