AZITHROMYCIN is a macrolide antibiotic. AZITHROMYCIN is an important antibiotic used in the treatment of different types of infections caused by bacteria, such as respiratory infections, skin infections, ear infections, and sexually transmitted infections.

• Complete the full course of antibiotic do not leave it in the mid-way despite symptomatic relief.
• Keep your doctor informed if you are taking any other medication along with AZITHROMYCIN.
• Do not hesitate to contact your doctor if you are experiencing sudden onset of rashes or swelling in the face, lips, mouth, throat or entire body.

Taking AZITHROMYCIN unnecessarily for a long period of time may make you prone to very serious fungal and bacterial infections that are more difficult to treat. 
Q) Does AZITHROMYCIN cause irregular heart rhythm? A)Yes, AZITHROMYCIN can cause irregular heart beats. You are advised to speak with your doctor before taking AZITHROMYCIN if you have or ever had any underlying heart conditions like arrhythmias (improper beating of the heart, whether irregular, too fast or too slow). Since AZITHROMYCIN might cause changes in the electrical activity of the heart thereby it may worsen your condition.  
Q) Can AZITHROMYCIN be used for malaria? A) There has been several studies conducted for intermittent preventive treatment of malaria with AZITHROMYCIN as a potential antimalarial agent. There are studies even during pregnancy with AZITHROMYCIN and chloroquine, infact the combination of azithromycin and chloroquine was found to be effective for treating malaria in adults too. However, there is no official confirmation of azithromycin-chloroquine adoption for use in intermittent preventive treatment of malaria. Do not self-medicate consult a doctor before taking it.  
Q) Does AZITHROMYCIN cure flu? A) No, antibiotics such as AZITHROMYCIN will not work for flu, or other viral infections. Using antibiotics when they are not needed may increase your risk of getting infection later that resists antibiotic treatment.
